The Design and Build for performance – Passive house, a Construct Innovate and Passive House Association of Ireland joint event, hosted by University of Galway, and in partnership with Engineers Ireland West took place on Thursday, 28th of November 2024.

We were delighted to see over 70 participants including 16 speakers from state bodies (Galway County Council), passive house architects, passive house and MMC contractors, sustainable materials experts and state-of-the-art equipment suppliers, passive affordable housing developers, progressive carbon-neutral estate managers.

This session was chaired by Helena McElmeel, Principal of Helena McElmeel Architects and presented excellent keynote speakers Stephen O’Shea from Cairn Homes and Nathan Campbell, Queen’s University Belfast, joined by panellist Patrycja Kochaniuk, Scott Tallon Walker Architects

Session 2: Delivering various building types to Passive House standard

This session was chaired by Barry Mc Carron FCIAT, KORE Retrofit and included fantastic keynote speakers Ann-Marie Fallon, Architype and Tomas O’Leary, MD of MosArt, and presentations by Simon Bell of HLM Architects and Owen Morgan, Helena McElmeel Architects.

Session 3: Building for performance – developing supply chain and capacity

This session was chaired by Professor Jamie Goggins, Construct Innovate and featured experienced engineers and managers – keynote speaker – John O’Connell, OCC Construction and panellists – Justin Molloy, Construction Industry Federation (CIF), Emmet Nee of @Long Life Structures, Cronan Kennedy of Ecological Building Systems.
