Showcasing Modern Methods of construction (MMC) Light Gauge Steel Apartments, Duplex’s & Houses from start through to completion

Bookings are open for a site visit hosted by the West Region to OCC Construction’s 102-unit MMC and LGS development in Ballybrit, Galway.

Construct Innovate and Engineers Ireland West Region will host an on-site visit to OCC Construction‘s 102-unit MMC (Modern Methods of Construction) LGS (Light Gauge Steel) development in Ballybrit, Galway on the 12th of December 2024.

The design and build development is built using off-site manufactured LGS supplied by Galway Company Greenframe. The buildings are designed to exceed NZEB compliance utilising percision designed airtight thermal envelopes, using Partel membranes, PV (Photo Voltaic) panels, smart electric space heating and Eco Volt Domestic Hot Water systems. This visit proves a great opportunity to learn how MMC and early collaboration between the contractor and design team can cut 20% off the program of residential delivery.

John O’Connell is a Chartered Engineer, graduated from University of Galway with both a BEng and ME in Civil Engineering, he currently chairs Engineers Ireland West Region and works as Engineering & Contracts Manager at Galway based OCC Construction, leading the Passive Haus principal’s across the design and implementation of MMC (Modern Methods of Construction) to elevate the sustainability & quality of Residential projects. John is a advocate for pushing the boundaries in building excellence, as a qualified passive house designer, he lead the 1st passive certified multi-unit housing development in the west region in 2023, followed by the largest Lean construction MMC development in the city in 2024.

Ballybrit is about a ten-minute drive from Galway city centre. It’s easy to get to the city with the 401 bus running to Eyre Square from Ballybrit every 20 minutes.
