Creation of open-access and Building Regulation compliant standardised design details for residential MMC
This project aims at supporting continuity of MMC from design through to construction as MMC system builds are becoming increasingly prevalent in the built environment. MMC has been shown to speed up delivery, reduce waste, reduce embodied carbon, whilst improving sustainability and circularity. Innovative systems such as MMC must comply with the Irish Building Regulations, however costly and time consuming independent third-party certification is required to demonstrate Building Regulation compliance. This project will demonstrate compliance with the Irish Building Regulations for one type of MMC by testing and modelling structure, fire, thermal, etc performance of standardised details/build-ups. The test results and standardised construction details will be made open source to help the more widespread adoption of MMC in the Irish construction sector.
