Dr Paul Moran
Postdoctoral Researcher, Construct Innovate
Dr Paul Moran is a Postdoctoral Researcherin Civil Engineeringat the National University of Ireland, Galway. He graduated from NUI Galway with a B.E. in Energy Systems Engineering in 2013 and a PhD in Civil Engineering in 2020. His PhD thesis investigated the environmental, economic and social impacts of residential buildings in Ireland moving towards nearly zero energy building standards by examining the interrelationships between the operational energy demand practices in buildings, the people occupying the buildings and the materials and technology used in the construction retrofit of the buildings.
Paul has worked as a civil engineer with RPS Consulting Engineers and Coffey Northumbrian on large civil projects in Ireland.
Paul was awarded funding from the Science Foundation of Ireland (SFI) to pursue further study under the supervision of Dr. Jamie Goggins and Dr. Magdalena Hajdukiewicz. Paul is working on the nZEB-Retrofit project with the overall goal to examine the effectivenessof innovative building structural elements and systems, regarding their structural, environmental and energy performance in retrofitting of existing buildings.
